When Colors Need to be Mixed
When you are able to come across the right framing selections then you can easily transform a relatively inexpensive print or poster into an expensive art work. In choosing mat colors never go for one that matches your art. Consider a double or triple mat if you want it to pick up a color from the image. Bottom mats should have color but top mats should remain neutral. To add dimension when framing go for double and triple mats.
The size of the piece as well as the width of the frame is important when determining the mat width. A different width for your mat and frame should exist. From the image a detracting striped appearance is created. If there is a double mat then its bottom mat should extend to about half an inch. For the mats to look great then consider applying the same width to all sides.
Maybe you have some floating prints and prints with deckled edges. Any floating image will be hinged to the front of your mat board. With a mat board the image can get a border around it. There are prints with deckled edges that are uneven but they can be placed on a mat even if not at the perfect center. If there's nothing distinctive about the edges you may simply want to have your mat cut so that it may be placed over the edges of your image.
There are times when framing photographs becomes a challenge. Great for formal photographs like wedding pictures and portraits are ornate Wood Frames in silver, gold and a variety of natural finishes but when it comes to art photographs including ones in black and white simple wood or metal frames in black or silver or with light natural wood frames are ideal. Gold finished or cherry wood frames, for instance, compete with the grays in black and white photographs.
Choose elaborate framing to go with antique photographs. Dealing with old black and white photos involves the use of silver frames. From wooden frames in mahogany, cherry, and ebony walnut, antiqued gold finished frames are also great for sepia toned prints. Including portraits and landscapes, traditional paintings are complemented by ornate mouldings and fabric liners. If you have contemporary paintings go for simple frames and avoid liners.
There is more to framing than just being used for paintings, photographs, prints, and posters. There are many uses for frames and they can be used for political buttons, old letters and postcards, fabrics, theater tickets, christening dresses if you want these to be displayed in your home or at the office. What is applied to gallery style framing is a minimalist look. Matte black wooden frames or ones with natural finishes are used here.
There is no ornamentation on the frames but only straight edges. Aside from being 8 ply thick the mats used for gallery style framing come in different shades of white. Placed on all sides of an image as small as about 3 by 5 inches could be mats that are 5 inches. Apart from making it appear that the piece is important the heavy mats are also able to draw the viewer's eye into the image.
Especially for antique furnishings and reproductions elaborate wood frames remain to be popular. Affluence in the mood of the 1980s is represented by high sheen silver and gold frames but when it comes to the reserved spirit of the 1990s antiqued silver and gold frames represent this. Industrial metal frames are a far cry from the metal frames of a decade ago. Other than brushed finishes with cross hatching, the new ones have cleaner lines and are much wider. Considering framing options, these and earlier metal frames are all economical choices.
Revitalizing art photography are the famous photographers but restoration services are responsible for the popularity of restoring and framing your family's own antique photographs. Other than their value never ceasing to increase with time antique posters are less expensive than many original artworks even if they are rather expensive to frame. Other than loft dwellers these are beneficial to those with wall space to spare.
