We often feel tired of taking the same picks on the eve of any occasion. How can I hang a portrait on canvas without a frame?
We had a Family Picture taken. It was put on canvas and is 20 by 24. I want to hang it without a frame.
If it's the type of canvas I'm used to working with, here's what you do:
[If the sides are not painted] buy a roll of painters tape, one tube of whatever color acrylic tube and a small 'flat' painters brush and those hooks from the hardware store, the kind that don't get nailed to your wall, they just stick(as seen on t.v!) Using a pair of scissors cut a large garbage bag along the seams, enough to cover the picture. Pull off lengths of tape equal to the length and width of the picture, you should have four pieces; 2 at 20 inches and 2 at 24 inches, the l×w of your picture. Put the bag on your picure covering everyone, except a half inch around the perimeter. PAT the tape down on your lap, keeping it straight and without creases, before applying it to that half inch perimeter; securing your garbage sheet, protecting your picture and at the same time not going over the edge. Now paint the edge. Add a droplet from the tube to an end and drag the paint with the brush across evenly without applying too much pressure, repeat as necessary on patches deprived of paint and continuity. Apply evenly across the edges, use a straight edge to scrape if you have to, leave no valleys or lines. Work Fast! And peel off the tape before the Acrylic dries. If you're using acrylic it's going to be tough peeling off the tape when it's dry, because of that latex texture it develops. I would say use tempera paint, but it doesn't have that somewhat glossier finish.
If it's canvas you're working with there should be an edge that works its way around the perimeter on the back. Meaure the top hoizonal inset, end to end. Using a straight edge and level draw a line on your wall. Mark two points on that line that match up with the measurement of the inset, leave a half inch off at both ends, and insert the hooks at those marks. Lastly, lower your canvas onto those hooks so that they rest on the top inset.
